Guard

The Middletown Color Guard and the Middletown Winter Guard consist of high school and elite middle school students who benefit from being part of a world-renowned organization. Under the direction of Stephanie Miller, Color Guard and Winter Guard have achieved consistently Superior ratings at Marching Band and Guard competitions.

Color Guard

The MHS Color Guard is the non-musical section of Excellence in Motion that provides additional visual aspects to the marching band’s performance. Excellence in Motion competes in OMEA marching band competition season, where the band excels. In competitions, the guard’s performance adds to the overall score of the band, especially in the visual performance categories. The marching band and color guard also march in parades and perform the half-time show for home MHS football games.

By synchronizing different colors and styles of flags, rifles, sabers, and other equipment pertaining to the music, as well as a mix of ballet, jazz, and contemporary modern dance, the color guard interprets the band’s music in to a stunning visual element.

Auditions and Season: Color Guard auditions are held in May, the practice season begins in July, and the performance season runs August through October.

Winter Guard

VARSITY WINTER GUARD

Winter Guard is called the “Sport of the Arts” because it brings athleticism, flag, and weaponry skills, dance, and music to life through performance in a competitive format at a gym or indoor arena. Our winter guard is an extra-curricular supported by the MMAC and competes in a number of adjudicated competitions by local, regional, and worldwide associations using criteria developed by the Winter Guard International (WGI).

Auditions and Season: Winter Guard auditions are held in November and the season runs from January through April.

NOVICE WINTER GUARD

The purpose of the Novice Winter Guard program is to introduce students grades 6-12 to the Middletown Color Guard Program and the Middletown Marching Band. By teaching students fundamental skills on flag and movement, students incorporate these skills into a routine. This program is supported by the MMAC and competes five to six Novice class competitions where Middletown Winter Guard teams are also competing.
